Case Study

What was the challenge?

To lead support for Tactical Data Link (TDL) systems engineering, integration, and testing for a Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD) capability, and TDL inputs to a Land system capability technical refresh.

What was the solution?

Atheniem members provided technical support to a GBAD capability development; assessing the message standards implementation and combat system integration of Link 16 and JREAP-C. System Requirements  were reviewed and amendments delivered; guidance was provided to the GBAD supplier concerning TDL combat system integration, testing and acceptance. A design change was supported to integrate a modern MIDS JTRS(5) Link 16 Terminal through technical assessment of supplier development of a MIDS Interface Unit (MIU). Design reviews and acceptance test event planning activities on behalf of the customer were supported. Engineering inputs at TDL and Test and Evaluation Working Groups (TWG) for Link 16 and JREAP-C testing strategy were provided. Support included liaison with military stakeholders, including the Joint Data Link Management Organisation (JDLMO) for implementation of the Common Initialisation Data Load (IDL) file format, and with 7Gp Royal Artillery for Link 16 deployment and operational training.

System Requirements updates focussing on system integration of a modern MIDS JTRS(5) Link 16 Terminal were delivered.

What was the outcome?

The customers programmes continue to require combat systems engineering guidance for future supplier led TDL testing and acceptance and customer led TDL assurance activities.
